Drehturm Aachen
About my City-Shapes: I have travelled a lot in my life. Having seen so much of the world is inspiring me to paint beautiful places and cities with a happy, positive note. The architecture, strukture and sould of each city fascinates me - and thats what I paint. People are not important here. The world has much to offer, and so there will be always places to paint in lush colours, lined with thin black lines.
About my Abstact/ -ish works: I started with abstract constructions on canvas while living in Tokyo in the 90's. Abstrations are intriguing to me. After moving from Japan to England I continued there with a small series of abstract works with rubber. In 2010 I found incredible inspiration in Brussels and in a Graffiti workshop in Aachen. I am combining both techniques
in the "Brou-Xelles" works, the "YOU" series and my new "Cosmopolitan Affair" series.
About my figurative paintings: After moving from London to Germany, I started with figurative paintings. The huge, monsterous, elegant windturbines in the German country side inspired me to do a whole series about them. In another series about my time in Japan, I expressed myself in Kanji words to describe my life there in a few key words. I also started with portraits, where I firstly used the black-line technique which I am now using on my City-Shapes paintings. During my time in an artist-colony in Poland I discovered oil and nude painting.
About my "YOU" Series: The YOU series is a combination of my figurative style & the black-line style from my City-Shapes, mixed with the abstract "Brussels-Techniques" and blended with some Graffiti elements. At first glance the paintings in the YOU-Series look as happy and positive as my City-Shapes or abstracts -but at second glance it is clear that the works are rather violent, aggressive and disturbing. One needs to take a close, good look to actually see what really goes on.
